Composite resins are tooth-colored fillings that bond directly to your tooth. They can restore your smile without the unsightly appearance of silver. Composite fillings boast several advantages over traditional silver, or amalgam, fillings. Because they bond to the tooth structure they require less removal of natural tooth structure and are thus more conservative. There are also fewer cases of fractured teeth with composites over amalgam due to its ability to bond to the tooth.
Safe, natural looking, and durable, we believe composite resin fillings are the best option for repairing tooth decay
Sometimes, so much tooth structure is missing, or nerve treatment (root canal) has been done that a stronger treatment option is needed to restore a tooth. In that case we may recommend a crown or bridge. A crown surrounds the entire tooth and protects it. A bridge is 3 or more crowns connected to replace a missing tooth.
There are several different materials that crowns are made from. Depending on whether esthetics or strength is needed we will recommend all-ceramic crowns or porclean over metal crowns. Two appointments are required to complete these restorations as they are created in a dental laboratory. The first visit involves preparing the natural tooth, taking an impression for the laboratory, and then placing a temporary over the remaining tooth structure for support. The permanent crown is adjusted and cemented at the second visit.
